EV Charger Installation in Orlando, FL

A Level 2 charger needs its own 240-volt circuit and enough panel capacity to carry it. We check both, run the circuit and handle the permit.

WHAT WE DO

What to Know About EV Charger Installation

Charging an electric vehicle from a standard household outlet works, slowly. A Level 2 charger runs on a dedicated 240-volt circuit and turns overnight charging into something that actually keeps up with daily driving.

The installation is mostly about the circuit, not the charger. It needs a dedicated 240-volt circuit sized for the unit, a run from the panel to wherever the car parks, and enough spare capacity in the panel to carry the load alongside everything else the building already runs.

407 Electrical installs EV chargers at homes and at businesses in the Orlando area. We check panel capacity first, because that is the item most likely to change the scope of the job.

What to Sort Out Before an EV Charger Goes In

These are the questions that decide what the installation looks like and what it costs.

Whether the panel has capacity

A Level 2 charger is a substantial continuous load. If the service is already close to its limit, capacity has to be addressed before the charger goes in.

Whether the panel has a free double slot

A 240-volt circuit needs two adjacent slots. Full panels and panels already using tandem breakers often do not have them.

How far the charger is from the panel

Distance drives conductor size and the routing. A detached garage or a driveway on the far side of the house is a different job than a garage wall next to the panel.

Hardwired or plug-in

Some chargers hardwire, some plug into a 240-volt receptacle. The choice affects the circuit, the breaker and, in some cases, the permit.

Indoor or outdoor mounting

Outdoor installations need weather-rated equipment and enclosures that hold up to Central Florida sun and rain.

Charging for a business or multiple vehicles

More than one charging position changes the load calculation significantly and often requires a dedicated feed.

What's Included in an EV Charger Installation

Scope is confirmed on your free estimate. A typical residential installation involves:

  • Panel and load evaluation

We confirm the service has capacity for the charger alongside your existing loads, and that there is space for the breaker.

  • A dedicated 240-volt circuit

A new circuit sized for the charger, with the correct breaker. EV chargers are not shared with other loads.

  • The run from panel to charger

Conductors routed through walls, attic or conduit to the charging location, with outdoor runs in weather-rated materials.

  • Mounting and connecting the charger

The unit mounted at a workable height and position, hardwired or fitted with a 240-volt receptacle as required.

  • Permitting and inspection

New circuits require a permit in the Orlando area. We pull it and coordinate the inspection.

  • Testing with the vehicle

We verify the charger comes up and delivers to the car before we finish.

Why a Proper Level 2 Installation Is Worth It

Charging speed that keeps up

A dedicated 240-volt circuit recovers a normal day's driving overnight instead of over a weekend.

Safety

EV charging is a heavy continuous load. Extension cords and shared circuits are exactly the wrong approach to it.

Code compliance

Permitted and inspected work that meets National Electrical Code requirements, on record for resale and insurance.

Electrical capacity for later

Sorting the panel out during the charger installation leaves room for a second vehicle or other future loads.

Convenience

Charging at home on your own schedule instead of planning trips around public chargers.

If Your Panel Cannot Carry the Charger

This comes up regularly, particularly in older homes and in houses that already run a pool pump and multiple air conditioning systems. If the service does not have the capacity, or the panel has no room for the breaker, the panel is addressed first and the charger circuit goes in afterward.

It is not the answer anyone wants, but it is far better than finding out after the charger is on the wall. If you send a photo of your panel with the door open when you request your estimate, we can usually tell you right away whether panel replacement is going to be part of the project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to what customers ask us most about ev charger installation.

Does an EV charger need its own circuit?

Yes. A Level 2 charger requires a dedicated 240-volt circuit sized for the unit. It is not shared with other outlets or appliances.

Do I need a permit to install an EV charger in Orlando?

Installing a new circuit requires a permit in the Orlando area. We pull the permit and coordinate the inspection as part of the job.

Will my electrical panel handle an EV charger?

Often yes, but not always. It depends on your service size and what the house already runs. We evaluate panel capacity as part of the free estimate, before any work is scheduled.

Can you install a charger in a detached garage or carport?

Yes. The distance from the panel and the route affect conductor size and cost, so tell us where the car parks when you request your estimate.

Do you install the charger I bought?

Yes. Send us the make and model with your estimate request and we will size the circuit for it.

Can you install EV chargers at a business or rental property?

Yes. We do commercial installations as well as residential. Multiple charging positions change the load calculation, so let us know how many you are planning.
